The Seamless In-Car Solution for Online Driving Students
Thousands of Ohio teenagers take their 24 hours of driver education coursework online through state-approved programs. But under Ohio law, online coursework is only half the requirement—you must also complete 8 hours of private in-car instruction with a licensed commercial driving school before taking your road test.
Canal Driving School specializes in seamlessly fulfilling this in-car requirement. We welcome students from ALL approved online providers. With flexible scheduling around school and athletics, we get you on the road quickly and safely.
How Your 8 Hours Are Structured
In accordance with Ohio Department of Public Safety guidelines, the 8 hours are divided into four 2-hour private lessons:
Vehicle Inspection, Basic Controls & Residential Roads
Adjusting seats, steering, and mirrors. Understanding braking distance, accelerator feathering, 3-point turns, curb parking, and navigating Canal Winchester residential neighborhoods.
Arterial Boulevards, Intersections & Roundabouts
Driving on multi-lane commercial corridors (Gender Rd, Hamilton Rd), judging safe gaps in oncoming traffic, unprotected left turns, Central Ohio roundabouts, and pedestrian vigilance.
Freeway Acceleration, High-Speed Lane Changes & Merging
Merging onto Route 33 and I-70 at proper traffic speeds, maintaining a 4-second safety cushion, blind spot head checks, and exiting smoothly onto deceleration ramps.
Ohio 5-Cone Maneuverability Mastery & Mock Road Exam
Rigorous practice on the exact Ohio BMV 9x20-foot 5-cone maneuverability course. Mock examination evaluated against official BMV scoring rules, followed by completion paperwork.
